phenotypes
The project explores formal variation in morphology through computational design, drawing inspiration from the rich diversity of phenotypes found in nature. Informed by D’Arcy Thompson’s critique of evolution as the sole determinant of biological form, the work considers how intrinsic and extrinsic information shape morphology. Using Blender, the study compounds tessellated systems by recursively feeding geometric information back into the design process. The resulting phenotype - a full color nylon sculpture fabricated via HP Multi Jet Fusion - represents one outcome of a broader generative method capable of producing a multitude of structurally expressive forms.
